Dean Colson, Chair
Dean Colson, of Coral Gables, began his two-year term as Chair of the Board of Governors in January 2012. Colson has been a partner with the
law firm of Colson Hicks Eidson in Miami since 1981. Colson was Vice Chair of the Board of Governors and also served as the Chair of the Legislative Committee the
past two years. He served as a member of the University of Miami's Board of Trustees, a private university, from 1991 to 2009 and was its Chair from 2004 to 2007.
He has served as a member and as Chair of the Florida Supreme Court's Judicial Nominating Committee from 2002 to 2006.
He received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Miami. He worked as a law clerk to Judge Peter T. Fay at the Federal Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit,
and to Justice William Rehnquist of the Supreme Court of the United States. Colson was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2010.
He previously served as a special adviser on higher education issues to then-Gov. Charlie Crist from 2007-10. His seven-year term on the Board ends in 2017.
