Michael Long, Co-President of the Student Alliance at New College of Florida
Long serves as the chairman of the Florida Student Association and represents the students of the state of Florida on the Florida Board of Governors. He is incredibly passionate about the Florida Student Association (FSA) and recognizes its vital role in higher education in the state of Florida. He and his fellow board members plan to take the organization’s efforts to the next level to ensure that higher education is at the forefront of every legislator’s mind.
Long is a second-year environmental policy student and is a native of Sarasota. As a student who worked two jobs and bears full financial responsibility for his own education, he fully realizes the importance of higher education funding.
He was elected to serve as Co-President of the student body at New College as a freshman, and is the youngest student to ever do so in New College’s fifty-year history. At 19, he is also the youngest chairman of the Florida Student Association and the youngest representative to serve on the Florida Board of Governors.
As a product of the juvenile justice system, he takes great pride in his work with troubled youth. He was named the “Youth Success of the Year” by the Department of Juvenile Justice for his involvement with DJJ and the AMI Kids program. In addition to his efforts with student government and juvenile justice, he captains the sailing team at New College and has led numerous trips to the Florida Keys and Bahamas with his peers.
