Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program, established in 2004 under Governor Bush, gives college and university students the unique opportunity to spend a semester working alongside state government's top staff. Gubernatorial Fellows receive firsthand, on-the-job training as well as valuable high-level experience and insight into state government and how it works. Eligible candidates are graduate students or upperclassmen at a Florida college or university. Approximately 12 students from across the state are selected to serve as Gubernatorial Fellows each year. The White House Fellows Program started in 1965 under President Johnson. It is the nation's most prestigious fellowship for leadership development and public service. The purpose of the White House Fellows program is to provide gifted and highly motivated young Americans with first-hand experience in the process of governing the Nation and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of society. An ideal White House Fellows candidate is an individual who displays a record of remarkable professional achievement early in one's career; evidence of leadership skills and the potential for further growth; a demonstrated commitment to public service; and the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute successfully at the highest levels of the federal government. The application process for the 2008 - 2009 White House Fellows program has begun and more information is available by clicking here. Applications must be submitted by midnight, EST, on February 1, 2008. 2008-2009 Fellows will have the unique opportunity to serve in the current administration, the presidential transition and the administration of the new president.
The White House Internship Program provides an opportunity to experience day-to-day life at the White House while working on a variety of tasks and projects. In addition to normal office duties, interns attend weekly lectures, volunteer at special events, participate in tours, and contribute to a community service project in the Washington, D.C. area. White House Internships are unpaid positions and participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing. Approximately 100 interns are chosen each spring, summer, and fall to participate in this highly competitive program. Applicants must be: At least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship; Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university, or graduated the previous semester; A United States citizen.
